Implants

A Dental Implant is a tooth replacement, similar to a hip replacement, or a knee replacement.

It is made of titanium, a highly biocompatible material, with excellent strength and durability.

It is fixed into the jawbone so it does not move. It is brushed as your natural teeth are. It does not come in and out of your mouth.

Implants have the highest success rate of all dental treatments for replacing missing teeth.

Implants deliver forces into the anchoring bone to preserve the bone you have. Losing a tooth over time will render the bone useless. The bone will shrink, and your jaw bone will start to thin. Implants will stop that bone loss, and provide you with teeth to chew once again.

Implants can be used to replace one tooth, multiple teeth, all of your teeth, or as anchors for complete and partial dentures.

They must be kept clean like your teeth, as although the implants do not get cavities, the bone around them can dissolve away through associated gum disease problems from a lack of hygiene.

The foundation for implants is the remaining bone you have in the area of tooth loss. Should the bone be of good quality and quantity, the implant will be ready for insertion. Part of a thorough examination from Dr. Giuliani helps to clarify the quality of the foundation. Occasionally, pre-implant work is needed, via bone grafting. This is where Dr. Giuliani plumps up the bone foundation for eventual implant insertion. The key to success with implants is to ensure the bone supporting them is adequate for the forces which will eventually be placed on the implants crown. Just like the sonotubes for a back deck, the smaller and weaker they are, the more vulnerable the whole deck is to collapsing.
